  • Motorola Moto G34 5G

Motorola launched the Moto G34 5G in India in January 2024 at Rs 10,999 for 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. At that price it was among the most affordable ways to get 5G with a respected chipset, and it was aimed at first-time smartphone buyers and anyone wanting a reliable secondary phone.

The Snapdragon 695 was a proven mid-range chip by then, and in a phone this cheap it delivers smoother performance than the entry-level MediaTek parts in many rivals. The 6.5-inch LCD runs at 120Hz but is only HD+ in resolution, so text looks slightly soft. Motorola includes stereo speakers, a headphone jack, microSD expansion and IP52 splash protection.

Cameras are basic: a 50 MP main sensor and a 2 MP macro lens, with a 16 MP selfie camera. Daylight photos are usable, but low light is a struggle. The 5000 mAh battery comfortably lasts a day and a half, and the clean Android 14 build is a real advantage over ad-heavy budget skins from some rivals like the Redmi 13C 5G.

  • Realme 12x

Realme launched the 12x in India in April 2024 at Rs 11,999 for 4 GB and 128 GB. It targeted budget buyers who wanted 5G and fast charging, a combination that was rare under Rs 12,000, and it carried an IP54 rating for dust and splash resistance. It also includes a 120 Hz screen.

The 6.72-inch full HD+ LCD runs at 120 Hz, making scrolling smooth. The Dimensity 6100+ handles everyday tasks and light gaming. The 50 MP main camera is accompanied by a 2 MP depth sensor and produces decent daylight photos. The 5,000 mAh battery charges at 45 W, noticeably faster than most rivals at this price. Realme also included its Air Gestures feature for touch-free control of some apps.

Rivals included the Redmi 13C 5G, the Poco M6 5G, the Samsung Galaxy M15 and the Lava Blaze 5G. The Galaxy M15 offered a larger battery and longer software support, while the 12x stood out with its faster charging and sharper screen. Heavy gamers should look a little higher up the price range.

  • Poco M6 Pro 5G

Poco launched the M6 Pro 5G in August 2023, shortly after the Redmi 12 5G, with which it shares most of its hardware. Its job was simple: undercut almost everyone on the price of a usable 5G phone. The base 4 GB and 64 GB model started at Rs 10,999, and the glass-backed design with a two-tone camera panel helped it stand out on store shelves.

The 6.79-inch full HD+ LCD refreshes at 90 Hz, large enough for comfortable video watching. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is efficient and handles everyday tasks, with light gaming possible. A 50 MP main camera is supported by a 2 MP depth sensor, producing passable daylight shots. The 5,000 mAh battery lasts well, but charging at 18 W is slow.

Competitors included the Samsung Galaxy M14 5G, the Lava Blaze 5G, the Realme Narzo 60x and its own sibling, the Redmi 12 5G. The Galaxy M14 offered a larger battery, while the Poco M6 Pro 5G undercut the Redmi on price for nearly identical hardware. The Redmi does offer more colour choices.

  • Poco C65

Poco launched the C65 in India in December 2023 as a rebadged sibling of the Redmi 13C, aimed at buyers who shop mainly online. The base model offered 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, which was generous for a phone at this price, and it came with a clean flat-edged design.

Its 6.74-inch HD+ LCD runs at 90 Hz, helping basic navigation feel smooth. The MediaTek Helio G85 is an older 4G chip that handles messaging, calls, social media and streaming, but struggles with heavier multitasking and games. A 50 MP main camera handles daylight photos adequately. The 5,000 mAh battery easily lasts a day, recharged at 18 W.

In this bracket it competed with the Redmi 13C, the Realme C53, the Samsung Galaxy A05 and the Itel P55. The Galaxy A05 offered more years of updates, while the Poco C65 matched the Redmi 13C on hardware at a slightly lower effective price. For a basic 4G phone with plenty of storage, it ticks the boxes.

  • Xiaomi Redmi 12 5G

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 12 5G in August 2023 as an affordable route into 5G, starting at Rs 11,999 for 4 GB and 128 GB. It was one of the first phones globally to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, and its glass back gave it a more premium look than most phones under Rs 12,000.

The 6.79-inch LCD runs at 90 Hz with full HD+ resolution, large and sharp enough for video, though it lacks the contrast of AMOLED. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 handles everyday apps smoothly and supports UFS 2.2 storage, but gaming is limited to lighter titles. The 50 MP main camera is serviceable in daylight; the 2 MP depth sensor adds little. A 5,000 mAh battery delivers long runtime, while 18 W charging is slow.

It competed with the Samsung Galaxy M14 5G, the Realme Narzo 60x and the Lava Blaze 5G. The Galaxy M14 offered a bigger 6,000 mAh battery, but the Redmi 12 5G felt nicer in hand and had a faster chip. The Poco M6 Pro 5G, launched alongside, offered essentially the same hardware at a lower price.

  • Xiaomi Redmi 13C

Xiaomi launched the Redmi 13C in India in December 2023 alongside a separate 5G model, and the 4G version is the one aimed at buyers for whom price matters more than network generation. Starting at Rs 7,999, it offers a large screen, ample storage and a design borrowed from pricier Redmis, with a flat frame and a vertical camera strip.

The 6.74-inch HD+ LCD runs at 90 Hz, which keeps scrolling smooth even if text is not especially crisp. MediaTek's Helio G85 is an older chip that handles calls, WhatsApp, YouTube and basic games, but multitasking can stutter. The 50 MP main camera gives acceptable daylight photos. A 5,000 mAh battery lasts long, though charging at 18 W takes well over two hours.

Competition included the Samsung Galaxy A05, the Realme C53, the Tecno Spark 20 and the Poco C65, which is essentially the same phone sold under Xiaomi's sub-brand. The Galaxy A05 promised longer software support, while the Redmi 13C offered more storage per rupee. For a basic 4G handset, it covers the essentials well.

  • Xiaomi Redmi 14C 5G

Launched in January 2025, the Redmi 14C 5G brought Xiaomi's cheapest 5G phone under Rs 10,000. It replaces the 13C 5G with a bigger 6.88-inch screen, a circular camera module that echoes Xiaomi's pricier phones, and HyperOS out of the box. The pitch is simple: a big screen and 5G for the price of a basic 4G handset.

The HD+ LCD runs at 120 Hz, an unusual feature at this price, so scrolling feels fluid even if sharpness is limited. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 is a capable entry chip with good 5G band support, handling daily apps and casual games. The 50 MP main camera produces decent daylight images. The 5,160 mAh battery comfortably lasts a full day and more, recharged at 18 W.

Rivals included the Samsung Galaxy M06 and A06, the Poco M7, the Realme Narzo N65 and the Lava Blaze-series. Samsung offered longer update promises, and the Poco M7 shared much of the same hardware. The Redmi 14C 5G is a sensible pick for those who want 5G and a big screen for streaming without stretching their budget.

  • Samsung Galaxy F15 5G

Samsung launched the Galaxy F15 5G in India in March 2024 at Rs 15,999 for 4 GB/128 GB, sold through Flipkart. It is essentially a Galaxy A15 5G with a bigger 6000 mAh battery, following the pattern of Samsung's online-only M and F series, and it carried over the A15's promise of four Android upgrades.

Its 6.5-inch Super AMOLED panel at 90Hz gives deep blacks and punchy colours, a clear advantage over LCD phones like the Poco M6 Pro in the same bracket. The MediaTek Dimensity 6100+ chip is efficient and handles social media, video streaming and casual games, but it is not built for heavy gaming sessions.

The rear cameras are a 50 MP main, 5 MP ultrawide and 2 MP macro, with a 13 MP selfie camera in a waterdrop notch. Daylight photos are decent, low light is average. The 6000 mAh battery easily lasts two days for many users, and 25W charging support is included, although the charger is sold separately. It is a sensible choice for long-term budget use.

  • Samsung Galaxy A05s

Samsung launched the Galaxy A05s in India in October 2023 at Rs 14,999 for 6 GB/128 GB. Unlike most phones in this list, it is a 4G-only device, built for buyers who want a large screen and Samsung's software without paying for 5G. It sits just below the Galaxy A14 5G and M14 5G in Samsung's range.

The 6.7-inch PLS LCD runs at 90Hz with full HD+ resolution, good for videos and reading but without the contrast of AMOLED panels. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 680 is a well-known efficient chip that handles messaging, social apps and video calls smoothly, though it struggles with demanding games. The plastic body is light enough and fits the price.

On the back are a 50 MP main camera with 2 MP depth and 2 MP macro sensors, while the 13 MP front camera handles selfies and calls. The 5000 mAh battery comfortably lasts more than a day, and 25W charging is faster than many entry-level Samsung phones of earlier years. Rivals like the Redmi 12 5G offered 5G at a similar price, which limited its appeal.

  • Samsung Galaxy M14 5G

Samsung launched the Galaxy M14 5G in India in April 2023 at Rs 13,490 for 4 GB/128 GB, sold primarily through Amazon and Samsung's own store. It shared much of its hardware with the Galaxy A14 5G but swapped the battery for a larger 6000 mAh cell, a classic M-series move aimed at online buyers who prioritise endurance.

The 6.6-inch PLS LCD has a 90Hz refresh rate and full HD+ resolution. It is fine indoors but less vibrant than the AMOLED screens found in the Redmi Note 12 at slightly higher prices. The Exynos 1330 chip, built on a 5 nm process, gives smooth basic performance and excellent efficiency, though it is not meant for demanding games.

On the back is a 50 MP main camera with 2 MP depth and 2 MP macro sensors, and a 13 MP selfie camera on the front. Battery life routinely extends to two days of light use, and 25W charging support helps, though the charger was not included in the box.
