  • CMF Phone 2 Pro

Nothing launched the CMF Phone 2 Pro in India in April 2025 at Rs 18,999 for 8 GB plus 128 GB. It keeps the modular spirit of the CMF Phone 1, with interchangeable lenses and accessories attached through a screw on the back, but is noticeably slimmer and lighter, and moves to a triple camera setup that budget rivals rarely match.

The 6.77-inch AMOLED runs at 120Hz and reaches high brightness outdoors. The Dimensity 7300 Pro is a minor refresh of the chip in the Phone 1, so performance is similar: smooth in daily use and capable in popular games. Nothing OS 3.2 on Android 15 comes with Essential Space and the Essential Key, features first seen on the Phone (3a).

The cameras include a 50 MP main, a 50 MP 2x telephoto and an 8 MP ultrawide, giving the phone far more flexibility than most sub-Rs 20,000 devices. The 5000 mAh battery lasts well beyond a day, with 33W charging. Against the Redmi Note 14 and Realme Narzo 80 Pro it offers telephoto zoom and cleaner software, though rivals can charge faster.

  • Motorola Moto G85 5G

Launched in India in July 2024 at Rs 17,999 for 8 GB plus 128 GB, the Moto G85 5G borrowed the curved-screen styling of Motorola's Edge phones and placed it in a budget-friendly price band. Vegan leather finishes and a slim profile make it look more expensive than it is, which is clearly the point.

The 6.67-inch curved pOLED refreshes at 120Hz and is a highlight, with rich colour and good outdoor visibility. The Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 is a modest chip, closer to the older Snapdragon 695 than to a true performance part, so heavy gamers should look at the Poco X6 or Realme Narzo 70 Pro instead. Everyday apps run smoothly on the clean Hello UI build of Android 14.

Photography is handled by a 50 MP Sony LYT-600 main sensor with OIS and an 8 MP ultrawide, a dependable combination in daylight. The 32 MP front camera is better than most rivals at this price. A 5000 mAh battery and 33W charging give all-day endurance. Overall it is a design-led phone that does the basics well rather than chasing specifications.

  • Xiaomi 14 Civi

Xiaomi brought the Civi line to India in June 2024 with the Xiaomi 14 Civi, priced at Rs 42,999 for 8 GB/256 GB. It is a rebranded Civi 4 Pro from China, aimed at style-conscious buyers who want flagship-like cameras and design without paying flagship prices. It competed with the OnePlus 12R, Nothing Phone (2) and Galaxy S23 FE.

The 6.55-inch curved AMOLED runs at 120Hz with 1236 x 2750 resolution and high peak brightness. The slim body comes in finishes including vegan leather and a metallic texture, making it one of the slimmer phones of its class. Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 offers near-flagship performance, comfortably handling games at high settings, with HyperOS running on Android 14.

The rear cameras are a 50 MP Leica main with OIS, a 12 MP ultrawide and a 50 MP 2x telephoto, producing pleasing portraits. Up front are dual 32 MP cameras, one wide and one standard, a rarity for group selfies. The 4700 mAh battery gets through a day, and 67W charging refills it quickly, though there is no wireless charging or high IP rating.

  • Motorola Edge 40 Neo

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo launched in India in September 2023 as a more affordable version of the Edge 40. It kept the curved 144Hz display, IP68 rating and slim design, while using a less powerful chip and dropping wireless charging. It competed with the Realme 11 Pro, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Samsung Galaxy M34.

The 6.55-inch curved pOLED display is bright and smooth at up to 144Hz. The Dimensity 7030 provides dependable everyday performance and handles casual gaming, though it is not a powerhouse. Its vegan leather finish in Pantone-certified colours gives it a premium look and feel. Motorola's near-stock Android 13 is clean and easy to use, with minimal bloatware.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS and 13 MP ultrawide take natural-looking photos in daylight, though low-light performance is average. The 32 MP selfie camera is decent. The 5,000 mAh battery offers good endurance, with 68W charging. Against the Realme 11 Pro, it offered IP68 water resistance and cleaner software, while Realme had a sharper main camera.

  • Motorola Edge 40

Motorola launched the Edge 40 in India in May 2023 with a very slim design, a vegan leather back and an IP68 rating, a rare combination at its price. It also included wireless charging, which almost no other phone around 30,000 rupees offered. It competed with the OnePlus Nord 3, Samsung Galaxy A54 and Nothing Phone (1).

The 6.55-inch curved pOLED display refreshes at up to 144Hz and looks vibrant and smooth. The Dimensity 8020 delivers solid performance for daily use and gaming. The phone is light and comfortable to hold. Motorola's near-stock Android 13 with a few useful gestures was praised for being clean, though the brand's update commitment was shorter than Samsung's.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS and 13 MP ultrawide, which doubles as a macro, take good photos with natural colours. The 32 MP selfie camera is decent. The 4,400 mAh battery is on the smaller side but lasts a day, with 68W wired and 15W wireless charging. The 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display at 120Hz is bright and smooth, giving the phone a premium look. The Dimensity 7050 handles everyday tasks, streaming and casual games well, though it is not built for heavy gaming. IP65 dust and water protection was rare at this price. ColorOS 14 on Android 14 offered a polished interface with useful features and limited bloatware compared with some rivals.

The 64 MP main camera captures good daylight photos, with an 8 MP ultrawide and 2 MP macro alongside. The 32 MP selfie camera is a strong point. The 5,000 mAh battery with 67W charging lasts a full day. Against the Realme 12 Pro, it offered better water resistance, while Realme had a periscope telephoto camera at a similar price.

It targeted buyers who wanted portraits and AI tools in a slim design, competing with the Vivo V40, Samsung Galaxy A55 and OnePlus Nord 4.

The 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display at 120Hz is sharp and bright. Oddly, the Reno 12 Pro uses the same Dimensity 7300 Energy chip as the cheaper Reno 12, so performance is adequate for daily use but not for heavy gaming. IP65 protection is included. ColorOS 14.1 on Android 14 brings AI Eraser, AI Best Face and other editing tools that work well in practice.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS, 50 MP 2x telephoto and 8 MP ultrawide deliver strong portraits, and the 50 MP autofocus selfie camera is a highlight. The 5,000 mAh battery with 80W charging lasts a day. Its slim curved design and portrait-focused camera system made it a style and photography pick, competing with the OnePlus 11R, Vivo V27 Pro and Google Pixel 7a.

The 6.74-inch curved AMOLED display runs at 120Hz with 1240 x 2772 resolution, giving it a premium look. Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, the previous year's flagship chip, delivers strong performance for gaming and multitasking. The thin body and glossy back make it feel elegant. ColorOS 13.1 on Android 13 offered a polished experience with some preinstalled apps.

The 50 MP Sony IMX890 main camera with OIS, 64 MP 3x periscope telephoto and 8 MP ultrawide make it one of the few phones under 60,000 rupees with true periscope zoom. Portraits were particularly impressive. The 4,700 mAh battery with 100W charging lasts a full day. The 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display at 120Hz is bright and colourful. The Dimensity 7300 Energy offers efficient everyday performance, though it is not built for heavy gaming. • Vivo Y200

Vivo launched the Y200 in India in October 2023, borrowing design cues from the V-series, including a slim profile and the Aura light ring for portraits. It was largely sold through offline retail stores, where Vivo has a strong presence, and competed with the Samsung Galaxy A14 5G, Oppo A79 and Redmi Note 12 5G.

The 6.67-inch AMOLED display at 120Hz looks vibrant and smooth, giving it an edge over many LCD rivals at retail. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is an entry-level 5G chip, suitable for calls, social media and streaming but limited for gaming. Critics noted that the price was high for this level of performance. Funtouch OS 13 on Android 13 offered the usual Vivo features.

The 64 MP main camera with OIS takes stable daytime photos, and the Aura light helps illuminate faces at night. The 2 MP depth sensor adds little. The 16 MP selfie camera is decent for video calls. The 4,800 mAh battery with 44W charging lasts a day.
