  • Motorola Edge 50 Pro

Motorola launched the Edge 50 Pro in India in April 2024 with an impressive spec sheet for its price, including a telephoto camera, very fast wired and wireless charging, and a Pantone-validated display and camera. It competed with the Nothing Phone (2a), Vivo V30 and Oppo Reno 11 for buyers wanting a premium feel without a flagship price.

The 6.7-inch curved pOLED display has a 1.5K resolution and refreshes at up to 144Hz, giving sharp, colour-accurate visuals. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 delivers smooth everyday performance and handles moderate gaming well. Its vegan leather back and slim build feel premium, and IP68 adds water protection. Motorola's near-stock Android 14 is clean, though update support was shorter than rivals.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS, 13 MP ultrawide and 10 MP 3x telephoto give it a flexible setup, and the 50 MP selfie camera is strong. The 4,500 mAh battery is modest, but 125W wired and 50W wireless charging support make top-ups fast, though the base variant shipped with a slower charger in the box. Against the Nothing Phone (2a), it offered a telephoto lens and wireless charging.

The Motorola Edge 40 Neo launched in India in September 2023 as a more affordable version of the Edge 40. It kept the curved 144Hz display, IP68 rating and slim design, while using a less powerful chip and dropping wireless charging. Its vegan leather finish in Pantone-certified colours gives it a premium look and feel. Motorola's near-stock Android 13 is clean and easy to use, with minimal bloatware.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS and 13 MP ultrawide take natural-looking photos in daylight, though low-light performance is average. The 32 MP selfie camera is decent. It was marketed as the first phone in India with IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings and also carried an MIL-STD-810H certification and Gorilla Glass Victus 2. It targeted buyers who wanted a tough yet stylish phone, competing with the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, Realme 12 Pro and Vivo T3.

The 6.7-inch curved AMOLED display at 120Hz is bright and vivid, and the phone looks slimmer than many rugged rivals. The Dimensity 7050 handles daily tasks and light gaming comfortably but is not a gaming chip. ColorOS 14 on Android 14 is smooth and offers useful features, though some reviewers felt the price was high for the performance on offer.

The 64 MP main camera captures decent daylight photos, but the 2 MP depth sensor adds little and there is no ultrawide. The 8 MP selfie camera is basic for the price. The 5,000 mAh battery with 67W charging lasts a full day. Against the Motorola Edge 50 Fusion, it offered stronger water resistance, while Motorola had a better camera system and cleaner software.

It aimed at buyers who wanted a smaller, premium-feeling phone, competing with the Vivo V50, Samsung Galaxy A56 and Nothing Phone (3a).

The 6.59-inch AMOLED display at 120Hz is sharp and easy to use with one hand. The Dimensity 8350 marks a big performance jump over the Reno 12's Dimensity 7300, handling games and multitasking with ease. IP66, IP68 and IP69 ratings give it strong protection against dust and water. ColorOS 15 on Android 15 brings smooth animations and a set of AI editing and writing features.

The 50 MP main camera with OIS and an 8 MP ultrawide handle most situations well, though there is no telephoto lens on the standard model. The 50 MP selfie camera is excellent. It took aim at the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, Vivo X200 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, with its standout feature being two periscope telephoto cameras for 3x and 6x optical zoom.

Hasselblad tuning provides natural colours. The 5,910 mAh battery supports 80W wired and 50W wireless charging. • iQOO 13

The iQOO 13 launched in India in December 2024 with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite, keeping iQOO's tradition of being among the first to ship the newest chip. It also addressed past criticisms by adding IP68 and IP69 protection and a larger battery. Rivals included the OnePlus 13, Realme GT 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S24.

The 6.82-inch LTPO AMOLED display offers 2K resolution and a 144Hz refresh rate, with excellent brightness. Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers top-tier performance, and iQOO's Q2 gaming chip adds frame interpolation and upscaling. An RGB light ring around the camera module adds flair. Funtouch OS 15 on Android 15 came with a promise of four Android updates and five years of security patches.

The camera setup has three 50 MP sensors: a main with OIS, an ultrawide and a 2x telephoto, offering consistent results. Zoom is weaker than the iQOO 12's periscope, though portrait shots are pleasant. The 6,000 mAh battery with 120W charging provides outstanding endurance and quick top-ups. Against the OnePlus 13, it was cheaper and more gaming-focused, while OnePlus offered wireless charging and better cameras.

  • Vivo T3 Ultra

The T3 Ultra launched in India in September 2024 as the most powerful phone in Vivo's online-focused T-series. It borrowed the Dimensity 9200+ chip from the V40 Pro and wrapped it in a slim curved design, competing against the Poco F6, OnePlus Nord 4 and Motorola Edge 50 Pro for buyers seeking performance without a flagship price.

The 6.78-inch curved AMOLED display has a 1260 x 2800 resolution and 120Hz refresh rate, giving excellent clarity and colour. Dimensity 9200+ handles demanding games and multitasking with ease, putting the T3 Ultra among the fastest phones in its segment. The IP68 rating adds durability, and the phone remains slim despite its large battery. Funtouch OS 14 offered plenty of features but came with preinstalled apps.

The 50 MP Sony IMX921 main camera with OIS performs well, joined by an 8 MP ultrawide that is noticeably weaker. The 50 MP autofocus selfie camera is a highlight. The 5,500 mAh battery with 80W charging lasts comfortably through a day. Against the Poco F6, it offered better water resistance and a curved display, though Poco had a slight performance advantage in some tests.

  • Vivo V50

Vivo launched the V50 in India in February 2025, continuing the series focus on slim design and portraits while pushing the battery to 6,000 mAh. A quad-curved display and Zeiss-branded dual cameras were the headline features, and the phone took on the Samsung Galaxy A56, Oppo Reno 13 and Nothing Phone (3a) Pro in the upper mid-range.

The 6.77-inch quad-curved AMOLED display at 120Hz is bright and colourful, wrapping gently on all four sides. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 3, carried over from the V30 and V40, keeps performance steady but no faster than before, which reviewers pointed out given the price. IP68 and IP69 ratings returned. Funtouch OS 15 on Android 15 brought some AI editing tools alongside Vivo's usual customisation.

The dual 50 MP rear cameras, main with OIS and ultrawide, deliver reliable Zeiss-tuned colours and the familiar Aura light helps night portraits. The 50 MP selfie camera remains excellent. The real story is endurance: the 6,000 mAh battery comfortably lasts well beyond a day, and 90W charging refills it fast. Buyers wanting more performance at this price might prefer a Poco or OnePlus Nord, but few match its battery in such a thin body.
