  • Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold

Google brought the Pixel 9 Pro Fold to India in August 2024 at Rs 1,72,999 for 16 GB plus 256 GB, the first Pixel foldable sold in the country. It abandoned the short, wide shape of the original Pixel Fold for a taller design whose 6.3-inch cover screen feels like a normal phone, and an 8-inch inner display that is the largest on any foldable of its year.

The inner LTPO OLED and the cover screen both run at up to 120Hz with high brightness. The phone is thin when open and uses Tensor G4 with 16 GB of RAM, enough for multitasking and Gemini features. Software support for split screen and the taskbar is good, though the Galaxy Z Fold 6 offers more refined multitasking tools and Snapdragon performance.

Cameras are a step below the slab Pixel 9 Pro: a 48 MP main, a 10.5 MP ultrawide and a 10.8 MP 5x telephoto, still producing reliable Pixel results. The 4650 mAh battery lasts a day, though charging is slow at 21W. Against the Z Fold 6 it offers a more usable cover screen and better camera processing, but loses on performance and the IP rating, which is only IPX8.

  • Google Pixel 8

The Pixel 8 launched in India in October 2023 at Rs 75,999 for 8 GB plus 128 GB, a sizeable jump over the Pixel 7. Google justified it with a brighter 120Hz display, the new Tensor G3 and, most importantly, seven years of Android OS and security updates, a commitment no Android rival matched at the time.

The 6.2-inch Actua OLED is smaller than the Pixel 7's screen and very bright, and the softer rounded corners make the phone comfortable to hold. Tensor G3 improved efficiency and enabled new AI tools such as Best Take, Magic Editor and Audio Magic Eraser. It still trails the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in the Galaxy S23 on gaming performance.

The 50 MP main and 12 MP ultrawide cameras, now with autofocus on the ultrawide for macro shots, remain dependable and natural. The 4575 mAh battery gives a solid day of use, charging at 27W wired and wirelessly. Against the Galaxy S23 and iPhone 15, it competes on camera and software longevity, but its launch price made it hard to recommend over discounted rivals.

  • Google Pixel 7a

Google launched the Pixel 7a in India in May 2023 at Rs 43,999 for 8 GB plus 128 GB. It was the most feature-rich A-series Pixel so far, adding a 90Hz screen and wireless charging, two things the Pixel 6a lacked, while sharing the Tensor G2 chip with the more expensive Pixel 7.

The 6.1-inch OLED is compact and colour-accurate, though 90Hz felt behind the 120Hz panels on the OnePlus 11R and Galaxy A54 at similar prices. Tensor G2 offers flagship-grade software features, Magic Eraser and Photo Unblur among them, but warms up under sustained load. The plastic back and matte aluminium frame feel solid, and the phone is IP67 rated.

The new 64 MP main camera with OIS and a 13 MP ultrawide produce photos that rival far pricier phones, especially in low light. The 4385 mAh battery gets through a day, but 18W wired and 7.5W wireless charging are slow. The main argument against it in India was price: the Pixel 7 itself often sold for only a little more during sales.

  • Google Pixel 7 Pro

The Pixel 7 Pro launched in India in October 2022 at Rs 84,999 for 12 GB plus 128 GB, taking on the Galaxy S22 Ultra and iPhone 14 Pro. It was Google's most complete phone up to that point, refining the bold camera-bar design of the Pixel 6 Pro with a polished aluminium finish and a slightly less aggressive curve to the display.

The 6.7-inch LTPO OLED runs at a sharp 1440 x 3120 with a variable 120Hz refresh rate. Tensor G2 is quick in everyday use and excels at speech recognition and image processing, though it trails Snapdragon rivals in gaming and efficiency. Android 13 here felt fluid, with exclusive features such as Call Screen, Recorder transcription and Photo Unblur.

The triple camera, with a 50 MP main, a 12 MP ultrawide with autofocus for macro shots and a 48 MP 5x telephoto, is among the best of its year. Super Res Zoom stays usable well beyond 10x. The 5000 mAh battery lasts a day, though charging at 23W is slow. Against the S22 Ultra it lacks the S Pen and 10x lens but matches it on overall photo quality.

  • Google Pixel 7

The Pixel 7 launched in India in October 2022 at Rs 59,999 for 8 GB plus 128 GB, the first mainline Pixel sold in the country since the Pixel 4 skipped it. Google positioned it as an alternative to the iPhone 14 and Galaxy S22, betting on software, camera processing and a promise of five years of security updates.

The 6.3-inch OLED runs at 90Hz rather than 120Hz, a noticeable compromise at the price. Google's second-generation Tensor G2 is not as fast as Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 in benchmarks and can run warm, but it powers on-device features such as Photo Unblur, Magic Eraser and fast voice typing. The aluminium camera bar and matte frame give it a distinctive look.

Photography is the reason to buy it. The 50 MP main camera and 12 MP ultrawide deliver consistent, natural results with excellent dynamic range and Night Sight, and video improved noticeably over the Pixel 6. Battery life is adequate rather than great from the 4355 mAh cell, and charging is slow by Indian standards, with no charger in the box.

  • Motorola Razr 50 Ultra

The Razr 50 Ultra launched in India in July 2024 at Rs 99,999 with 12 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, competing head-on with the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Motorola enlarged the cover display to 4 inches, wrapping it around the cameras for the largest outer screen on any flip phone at the time, and added IPX8 water resistance after the IP52 of its predecessor.

The 6.9-inch inner LTPO pOLED and the cover panel both run at up to 165Hz. The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is quick and runs cool in the slim body. Motorola also leaned into AI, with Google Gemini usable directly from the cover screen and several Moto AI features for photos and summaries.

The camera pairing is unusual: a 50 MP main sensor with OIS and a 50 MP 2x telephoto instead of an ultrawide, which favours portraits over landscapes. The 4000 mAh battery with 45W wired and 15W wireless charging is an improvement on the 40 Ultra. Against the Z Flip 6, it offers a bigger cover screen and more storage, while Samsung counters with longer update support.

  • Motorola Razr 40 Ultra

When the Razr 40 Ultra launched in India in July 2023 at Rs 89,999, its 3.6-inch outer display was its biggest talking point. It ran full apps, not just widgets, which made the phone genuinely usable while closed and forced Samsung to respond with a larger cover screen on the Galaxy Z Flip 5 the same month.

The main 6.9-inch foldable pOLED refreshes at up to 165Hz, the fastest of any foldable then, and the cover screen manages 144Hz. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 was a generation old but still fast and cooler-running than the 8 Gen 1. The hinge folds completely flat with no gap, and the phone feels compact and sturdy in the pocket.

Compromises sit in the cameras and battery. A 12 MP main and 13 MP ultrawide produce good but not flagship-level photos, though the big cover screen makes rear-camera selfies easy. The 3800 mAh battery with 30W charging needs careful management on heavy days. It undercut the Z Flip 5 on price at launch while offering a more capable outer display.

  • Motorola Razr 40

The Razr 40 launched in India in July 2023 at Rs 59,999, making it one of the cheapest mainstream clamshell foldables available at the time and a direct alternative to the far pricier Galaxy Z Flip 5. It folds flat without a visible gap and comes in soft vegan leather finishes that give it a grippy, distinctive feel.

Inside, a 6.9-inch pOLED main display runs at up to 144Hz, while the cover screen is a small 1.5-inch panel that shows notifications, time and a camera viewfinder but little else. The Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is a mid-range chip, fine for daily use but not a gaming performer, and the hinge holds the phone at angles for hands-free video calls.

Its 64 MP main camera with OIS and 13 MP ultrawide produce decent results, and the 4200 mAh battery is notably larger than in most flip phones of the period, comfortably lasting a day. Charging is 33W wired with 8W wireless. Against the Galaxy Z Flip 5 it gives up the big cover screen and flagship chip but costs tens of thousands less.

  • Motorola Edge 60 Pro

Priced at Rs 29,999 for 8 GB plus 256 GB when it launched in India in April 2025, the Edge 60 Pro moved Motorola's Pro badge into the sub-Rs 30,000 bracket. It competes directly with the Nothing Phone (3a) Pro, the OnePlus Nord 4 and the Realme GT 7T, and leans on durability with IP68 and IP69 ratings plus MIL-STD-810H testing.

The MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Extreme is the fastest chip Motorola had put in an Edge at this price, comfortable with demanding games at high settings. It drives a 6.7-inch curved 1.5K pOLED at 120Hz. Motorola paired it with a large 6000 mAh battery, 90W wired charging and 15W wireless charging, a combination that is unusual below Rs 30,000.

The camera system uses a 50 MP main sensor with OIS, a 50 MP ultrawide and a 10 MP 3x telephoto, along with a 50 MP selfie camera. Results are balanced rather than class-leading, with the telephoto giving it an edge over the Nord 4. Software is clean Hello UI over Android 15, with Moto AI features carried over from the Razr line.

  • Motorola Edge 50 Neo

The Edge 50 Neo reached India in September 2024 at Rs 23,999 with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, and its headline feature was size. At 6.4 inches it was one of the very few compact Android phones left in the segment, and Motorola did not strip it down to get there: it kept IP68 sealing, a MIL-STD-810H durability rating and Pantone-curated finishes.

The flat LTPO pOLED adapts its refresh rate up to 120Hz and is bright enough outdoors. The MediaTek Dimensity 7300 is efficient rather than fast, comfortable for everyday tasks and light gaming. Motorola also promised five years of OS upgrades for this model, a notable commitment for a Motorola mid-ranger at the time.

A 50 MP main camera with OIS is joined by a 13 MP ultrawide and a 10 MP 3x telephoto, giving it optical zoom that rivals like the Nothing Phone (2a) lacked. The trade-off for compactness is a 4310 mAh battery, which gets through a day but not much more; 68W wired and 15W wireless charging soften that. It suits anyone tired of oversized phones.
