  • Apple iPhone 14 Plus

Apple launched the iPhone 14 Plus in India in September 2022 at Rs 89,900 for 128 GB, replacing the mini model in the lineup. It offered the large 6.7-inch display that had previously been exclusive to the Pro Max, at a significantly lower price, though it went on sale a few weeks after the regular iPhone 14.

The Super Retina XDR OLED is big and bright but limited to 60Hz and still uses the notch rather than the Dynamic Island of the Pro models. At 203 g it is lighter than the 14 Pro Max, making it more comfortable for long reading or video sessions. The A15 Bionic with five GPU cores provides smooth performance across all apps.

Battery life is its standout feature, regularly exceeding that of the 14 Pro Max in everyday use and lasting well into a second day for moderate users. Cameras match the iPhone 14: 12 MP wide with a larger sensor and 12 MP ultrawide, plus an autofocus selfie camera. Sales were reportedly slow, as buyers either chose the cheaper iPhone 14 or stretched to the Pro.

  • Apple iPhone 14

The iPhone 14 launched in India in September 2022 at Rs 79,900 for 128 GB. It looked almost identical to the iPhone 13 and kept the same A15 Bionic chip, albeit with a five-core GPU and 6 GB of RAM. Apple's new features were safety-focused: Crash Detection and, in some countries, Emergency SOS via satellite, which was not available in India.

The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED is unchanged and still runs at 60Hz, which drew criticism when Android phones at half the price offered 120Hz. Internally Apple redesigned the chassis so the back glass is easier and cheaper to replace. Performance remains excellent for daily use and games, and battery life is slightly better than the iPhone 13.

The 12 MP main camera got a larger sensor with faster aperture, improving low-light photos, and the front camera gained autofocus. Action mode made handheld video remarkably stable. Charging is around 20W with MagSafe up to 15W. With the iPhone 13 cheaper and nearly identical, most reviewers advised buyers to choose the older model or step up to the 14 Pro.

  • Apple iPhone SE (3rd generation)

Apple launched the third-generation iPhone SE in India in March 2022 at Rs 43,900 for 64 GB. It reused the iPhone 8 design, complete with thick bezels, a Home button with Touch ID and a 4.7-inch screen, but inside it carried the same A15 Bionic as the iPhone 13 and added 5G support for the first time on an SE.

The 4.7-inch Retina HD LCD at 750 x 1334 looks dated next to OLED Android phones at this price, such as the OnePlus 10R or Galaxy A73. The upside is a tiny, 144 g phone that is easy to use with one hand. Performance is excellent, far beyond any Android phone in its price band, and iOS updates were expected to continue for many years.

There is a single 12 MP rear camera, which benefits from the A15's image processing and handles daylight well, but it lacks Night mode and an ultrawide lens. The small battery is the major weakness and heavy users will struggle to reach the evening. It has IP67 water resistance and wireless charging, making it a practical choice for those who want Touch ID and a compact phone.

  • Apple iPhone 13

Apple launched the iPhone 13 in India in September 2021 at Rs 79,900 for 128 GB, doubling the base storage of the iPhone 12. It kept the flat-edged aluminium design but trimmed the notch by about 20 percent and moved the cameras into a diagonal layout. Over the following years, price cuts and festive sales made it one of the best-selling iPhones in India.

The 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR OLED is bright and colour accurate, though it is limited to 60Hz while Android rivals at this price had 120Hz. The A15 Bionic chip was the fastest phone chip of its time and kept the phone feeling quick long after launch. At 173 g it is comfortable, and IP68 water resistance plus Ceramic Shield glass make it durable.

Both 12 MP cameras improved, with the wide camera gaining sensor-shift stabilisation and Cinematic mode adding rack-focus video. Battery life was a big step over the iPhone 12, comfortably lasting a day. Charging is slow at around 20W with an adapter bought separately. Against the Galaxy S21 FE and OnePlus 9, it won on video, longevity and resale value.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge

Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge in India in May 2025 at Rs 1,09,999 for 12 GB/256 GB. It is a design-first phone: a titanium frame just 5.8 mm thick and a weight of 163 g, despite carrying a 6.7-inch QHD+ display. It sits between the S25+ and S25 Ultra in price, which made its value case harder than its looks.

Picking it up is the selling point. It feels lighter than the smaller S25 in some hands and slips into pockets that the Ultra strains. The screen is a sharp 1440 x 3120 panel with a 120Hz adaptive rate, and the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy delivers the same speed as the other S25 models, although sustained gaming makes the thin body warm.

To get so slim Samsung cut the telephoto, leaving a 200 MP main and 12 MP ultrawide. The 200 MP sensor's crop handles 2x well, but it cannot match the zoom of the cheaper S25. The 3900 mAh battery and 25W charging are the clear compromises, and heavy users will need a top-up by evening. Its closest rival in concept was the later iPhone Air, not the regular flagships.

  • Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra

The Galaxy S25 Ultra went on sale in India in early 2025 after a January launch, priced at Rs 1,29,999 for 12 GB/256 GB. It kept the Ultra recipe of a built-in S Pen, titanium frame and four rear cameras, but softened the design with rounded corners and a slightly larger 6.9-inch display that is easier to hold than the boxy S24 Ultra.

The QHD+ screen keeps Gorilla Armor 2 with anti-reflective coating, which remains one of the best outdoor displays on any phone. Weight drops to 218 g, a meaningful change for an Ultra. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy is fast and efficient, and Samsung removed Bluetooth Air Actions from the S Pen, a small loss for people who used it as a remote.

The ultrawide camera jumps to 50 MP, joining the 200 MP main, 10 MP 3x and 50 MP 5x telephotos. Battery stays at 5000 mAh with 45W charging, but endurance is excellent. Rivals such as the Vivo X200 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max matched or beat it in some camera tests, yet nothing else combines a stylus, this zoom range and seven years of updates.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5

Samsung's fifth-generation book-style foldable reached India in July 2023 at Rs 1,54,999 for 12 GB/256 GB. Its headline change was the new Flex hinge, which lets the phone close flat with no wedge-shaped gap, making it slimmer when folded and less prone to collecting grit. It launched against the first wave of serious foldable competition in India.

Open, you get a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X inner screen with a less visible crease than before; closed, a narrow 6.2-inch cover display. The narrow outer screen remained the main complaint, especially next to wider rivals like the Pixel Fold and OnePlus Open. Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy provides smooth multitasking, and Samsung's taskbar and three-app split view are the most mature foldable software of the time.

Cameras are a 50 MP main, 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP 3x telephoto, solid but behind the Galaxy S23 Ultra. A 4400 mAh battery and 25W charging feel conservative for the price. IPX8 water resistance, S Pen Fold Edition support and a polished app experience are its strengths, while the OnePlus Open, arriving months later, beat it on cameras and charging speed.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Fold6

The Galaxy Z Fold6 launched in India in July 2024 at Rs 1,64,999 for 12 GB/256 GB. Samsung refined rather than reinvented, making it lighter at 239 g, slightly squarer with sharper corners, and a little wider on the outside with a 6.3-inch cover display. Galaxy AI features like Note Assist, interpreter mode and Sketch to Image were heavily promoted.

The 7.6-inch inner panel is brighter and its crease is a bit less pronounced than on the Fold5. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy with a larger vapour chamber improves sustained performance for gaming and multitasking. Samsung also raised protection to IP48, which adds some resistance against larger dust particles, though fine sand remains a concern.

Cameras are unchanged from the Fold5: 50 MP main, 12 MP ultrawide and 10 MP 3x telephoto. The 4400 mAh battery and 25W charging also carry over, an area where the OnePlus Open and Vivo X Fold3 Pro were clearly ahead with bigger cells and faster charging. Where the Fold6 wins is software polish, accessory support and the update promise of seven years.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip6

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip6 in India in July 2024 at Rs 1,09,999 for 12 GB/256 GB. The design looks nearly identical to the Flip5 from a distance, with the same 3.4-inch Flex Window, but the meaningful changes are inside: a bigger battery, more RAM, a vapour chamber and a much better main camera.

The 6.7-inch inner screen is brighter and the crease a little shallower, while the flatter frame gives it a more modern look. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy with the new cooling solution means less throttling than the Flip5. The cover screen now gets AI-suggested replies and more widgets, and IP48 adds basic dust resistance on top of water protection.

A 50 MP main sensor replaces the old 12 MP unit, producing sharper photos and better 2x crops, with a 12 MP ultrawide alongside. The 4000 mAh battery finally gives most users a full day, although 25W charging is still slow. The Motorola Razr 50 Ultra offered a larger outer screen and faster charging, so the choice came down to software support versus hardware value.

  • Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5

Samsung launched the Galaxy Z Flip5 in India in July 2023 at Rs 99,999 for 8 GB/256 GB. After years of a tiny notification strip, the Flip5 brought a 3.4-inch Flex Window on the outside, large enough for widgets, quick replies, maps and even full apps through Samsung's Labs setting. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra had a bigger cover screen, setting up a direct contest.

The new hinge closes flat with no gap, and the 187 g phone feels dense and well made. Inside is a 6.7-inch 120Hz Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a crease you notice mainly at angles. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy keeps everything fast, and Flex Mode lets the half-folded phone act as its own tripod for video calls and time-lapses.

There is no telephoto: you get a 12 MP main and 12 MP ultrawide, with a 10 MP inner selfie camera, though the cover screen lets you use the main camera for selfies too. The 3700 mAh battery is the weak spot and heavy users will need to charge by evening, with only 25W wired support. For style and compactness, few phones of its time matched it.
